【2026】Microsoft Clarity Shopify App Review: Is the Free Brand Agent Worth It?
In 2026, Microsoft launched an official Shopify app for Clarity — not only making installation much simpler, but also introducing an interesting new feature: Brand Agent. I installed and tested it firsthand, and this post covers what the app does, how it performed in real use, and which Shopify stores are worth installing it for.
What is the Microsoft Clarity Shopify app?
Previously, using Clarity meant manually adding the tracking script to your site, or installing it through Google Tag Manager — a bit of a technical hurdle. With the official Shopify app, the whole process is much simpler: create or connect a Clarity project, enable the tracking script, manage your analytics, and turn on Brand Agent — nearly all of it directly from your Shopify admin, with no theme code to touch.
What does this app do?
Session Replay
Watch real visitor sessions — mouse movement, clicks, scroll depth, and exactly where they drop off. A few replays often reveal more than a spreadsheet ever could.
Heatmaps
See at a glance which buttons get clicked, which banners get ignored, which images draw the eye, and whether your CTA is actually in the right spot. Great for optimizing your homepage or PDPs.
AI Insights
Automatically surfaces high-drop-off pages and friction points in the shopping flow — so you don't have to watch replay after replay to find what's worth fixing first.
Smart Events & Conversion Funnels
Built-in ecommerce events — product views, add to cart, checkout started, purchase completed. Build or customize funnels to pinpoint exactly where customers drop off.
Brand Agent
What genuinely impressed me was Brand Agent, still in beta. It's not a traditional keyword-matching chatbot — Microsoft positions it as an AI shopping assistant. Once installed, a chat widget appears on your storefront. I tested it on my own Shopify store and found it can answer questions about site content, explain your services, guide shoppers through your catalog, and recommend products — all through natural conversation, not a rigid decision-tree flow. If your product data and content are already solid, its answers feel noticeably more natural than a typical keyword-based chatbot.
- ✓Answers customer questions 24/7
- ✓Customizable greeting and appearance to match your brand
- ✓Recommends products using your live Shopify catalog
- ✓Supports add-to-cart directly in chat
- ✓Tracks conversion impact before vs. after activation
- ✓Syncs your catalog to Merchant Center for Bing & Copilot discovery
Still in beta — you'll need to join a waitlist
Brand Agent is currently in beta, so installing the app doesn't turn it on right away — you'll need to join a waitlist and wait for Microsoft to grant access. It's officially supported on Shopify and WooCommerce for now.
Hands-on impressions
After activating Brand Agent, three things stood out:
Setup is genuinely simple — no theme edits, no custom JavaScript, just follow the prompts in your admin.
It picks up your public site content quickly and answers basic questions smoothly — a solid first line of support for service-based stores or smaller catalogs.
Since it's still beta, answer quality depends heavily on how complete your content is — the more thorough your product descriptions and FAQs, the better it performs.
My take: right now it's best used as a support agent's assistant — handling repetitive, basic questions first — rather than a full replacement for customer service.
How to install it
Install Microsoft Clarity: AI Insights from the Shopify App Store
Sign in with your Microsoft account
Create a new Clarity project, or connect an existing one
Turn on the Clarity tracking script
To use Brand Agent, join the waitlist — once approved, configure your brand name, greeting, and appearance
Wait for setup to finish, and you're ready to go
Who should install this?
- ✓You're new to Shopify and want to understand how visitors actually use your site
- ✓You already have traffic but can't figure out why conversion rate is low
- ✓Your products need more explanation, and you want AI to answer questions in real time
- ✓You don't have dedicated support staff and want basic 24/7 coverage
- ✓You simply want a free tool to keep optimizing the site experience
What to keep in mind
Brand Agent is appealing, but go in with a few things in mind: it's still in beta, so features and the interface may keep changing; answer quality depends heavily on your site content, so the more complete your product info and FAQs, the better it performs; and if your store is subject to privacy regulations like GDPR, you should still review your cookie consent setup and analytics usage against local requirements.
ORNG Studio's take
Ecommerce may be moving past the model of simply listing products and waiting for shoppers to search — toward AI that actively helps customers discover products, answers their questions, makes recommendations, and shortens the path from browsing to checkout. Brand Agent is still in beta and requires a waitlist, but since it's free and low-effort to set up, now is a good time to get familiar with it.
